An American woman from Massachusetts was announced the winner of Powerball’s single ticket prize of $758.7 million on Thursday, August 24. This makes her win the largest single-ticket Powerball’s prize in U.S history.
Mavis L. Wanczyk, who was a hospital worker until her win yesterday immediately resigned from Mercy Medical Centre where she had been working for the past 32 years.
Wanczyk, 53 who has two grown up children chose to take a lump sum payment of $480 million or $336 million after taxes according to lottery officials.
Powerball is played in 44 states of the U.S in which all the participating states collectively oversee the game.
In Powerball, the drawings are made twice a week. Five white balls are drawn from a drum containing 69 balls and one red ball is also drawn from a drum containing 26 balls.
Players are allowed to choose their numbers or let a computer make the choice for them. The lucky numbers from the draw held on Wednesday’s night were 6,7,16,23 and 26 and the Powerball number was 4.
