Nigeria has won the 2017 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship this evening, August 27. They did this after winning all 8 games and defeating defending champions Senegal for the second time in the tourney to come out tops.
Mozambique, Congo, Egypt and Guinea all suffered in the hands of the Nigerian champions as they clinched their third title. They prevailed over Senegal with a score line of 64-48.
D’tigress had narrowly prevailed over the hosts, Mali in a tense semi-final match on Saturday, August 26 which the Nigerian girls won 48-47. This qualified them for the final and by extension helped them secure a berth at next year’s FIBA World Cup in Spain.
