The Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Jummai Alhassan, has shown her support for former VP Atiku Abubakar to run for Presidency, come 2019.

During a visit to the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Al-Hassan, publicly endorsed his bid to became president by 2019. Although Atiku and President Buhari have not publicly declared their intention to run in 2019.

The Minister said that the reason for her support, is that the former VP is her godfather. She further said that President Buhari is an understanding man and would understand her decision. However, she claimed that she would not be bothered if this decision leads to her sack.

According to reports, she stated that, even if President Muhammadu Buhari decides to re-contest in 2019, Atiku would still have her vote.

“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba, I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister; but Baba, just like you know, I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather.”

It is of note that the Minister was appointed to President Buhari’s cabinet in 2015 after she lost the Taraba State governorship race to Darius Ishaku.
