Africa’s richest man and President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has revealed that the state of insecurity in the country, particularly considering kidnapping, is scaring investors away.
Dangote said this at the Agric Expo and Conference which was organised by Nigeria Agribusiness Group in collaboration with other private sector agencies.
The Executive Director, Public Sector, of Dangote Group, Mosul Ahmed, represented Dangote, and spoke on ‘Challenges facing Agribusiness Investors in Nigeria.’
Ahmed expressed displeasure at the rate at which kidnapping occurs on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. This, he said, has made many owners of commercial farms to practically abandon them for fear of getting kidnapped.
“The security situation in the country is discouraging agribusiness investors. Most of the people that own large farms on the Kaduna-Abuja Road have abandoned their farms due to the menace of kidnapping,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that the Government at all levels needed to come together and work together towards the protection of investors in the agricultural sector in order to ensure a higher productivity by the sector.
