The Super Eagles of Nigeria, today qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals in Russia after beating Zambia 1-0 in a tighly contested match at Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi came on as a substitute in the second half to score the winning and only goal of the match in the 73rd minute after a sublime pass from Victor Moses.
Congratulatory messages have been pouring in from different quarters even as the nation is agog and thrilled to have qualified relatively easily from their group.
President Buhari, Former President, Goodluck Jonathan and Former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku took to their twitter handles to felicitate with Super Eagles and Nigerians on this enormous feat.
President Buhari in a statement said “Tonight the Super Eagles gave us a 57th Independence Anniversary gift. I join millions of Nigerians in rejoicing with the players and crew.”
Dr Jonathan said “I am not surprised that you have qualified. Thank you Super Eagles. You exemplify the can do Nigerian spirit.”
Atiku on his handle stated “They say Russia is cold. We are still coming! Haha! Congratulations to the Super Eagles and all Nigerians!” The former VP also posted the picture below to buttress his point:
