Maritime Security Operatives have disclosed that six crew members of a German-owned container ship, including the Captain of the ship, have been kidnapped by pirates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Sea Guardian Consultancy revealed that the attack took place at about 7:00 a.m. on Saturday when the pirates – eight in number – boarded the ship and kidnapped six crew members.

The ship, Demeter, which was travelling from Malabo, Equatorian Guinea to Monrovia, Liberia, was reportedly attacked as it entered the Port of Onne.

Meanwhile, the remaining 12 seafarers aboard the Demeter are safe, and the ship has proceeded to safe waters.
