Seventeen wives of the governors from Southern Nigeria under the Southern Governors wives Forum SGWF have converged on Calabar, the Cross River State Capital to deliberate on the need to promote girls child, Women Development and empowerment as well as Eradication of child labour as part of their end of the year quarterly meeting.
The southern governors wives led by their president Nneoma Rochas Okorocha who visited governor Ben Ayade in his office were told on the need to partner with state governments in the region on issues affecting women and children.
Governor Ayade used the visit to inform the wives of the Southern governors wives from on reason why his government established the Calabar Garment factory where over ninety percent of employees are women and widows,explaining that women have taken centre stage in his government with about fifty percent of his over two thousand appointees being women.
On her part,the president of the Southern Governors wives Forum Nneoma Rochas Okorocha who Commended Governor Ayade for his interest in women sought for further partnership in fight against child labour.
AIT Rasheed Olanrewaju reports that thirteen of the Southern Governors wives were physically present while those who could not make it were represented.
