Body of Air Vice Marshal Funsho Martins recovered from Lagos Lagoon

The bodies of late AVM Olufunsho Martins (retd) and his driver have been retrieved from the Lagos Lagoon by officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and local divers.

The Ford Explorer Sports Utility Vehicle which the retired air force officer and his driver were travelling in somersaulted late Saturday night and plunged into the muddy section of the Lagos Lagoon.

The vehicle was brought out of the lagoon in the early hours of Sunday, by LASEMA officials, with both occupants dead.

 

Vanguard reports that hours after news filtered in that Air Vice Marshal Martins vehicle plunged into the lagoon, scores of relative thronged the Park View Estate home of the deceased to commiserate with his family.

 

Late Martins was said to be going to his Funsho Martin’s Avenue, Park View Estate, when the vehicle collided with another, at about 10.55pm, Saturday.

 

The vehicle reportedly somersaulted before it plunged into the lagoon.

His true identity was revealed through an identity card found inside the vehicle , after it was brought out.

 

Both bodies were thereafter, taken to the Nigerian Airforce hospital, Ikeja.

Reports had it that the late Martins had just returned from the United Kingdom, to attend the burial of a relative.
