A six-month-old baby boy was mauled to death by a dog at home in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
The baby, identified as Callum, was attacked by a pitbull and died at his grandmother’s house in Primrose‚ reported ER24 spokesman, Russel Meiring.
“Paramedics were led into the lounge of the home where they found the body of the child‚” he said.
“When the baby was assessed‚ he had sustained several serious bite wounds and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately‚ the boy had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing more could be done and he was declared dead‚” added Meiring.
The circumstances around the incident were said to be under investigation.
Speaking to the Germiston City News after the death of her baby boy, Ané Stols, said:
“He was always smiling, had no problems and was very loving.”
“Apparently she took him out of the car and started walking to the house and the dog started attacking Callum in his car chair,” said Ané.
The Germiston City News reported that Gerard Edward, Ané’s partner of a year, said that the dog had always been aggressive.
Ané added that the dog had never liked children. She has two other children; Kiana, 3 and Zian, 5.
