The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, has disclosed the possibility of registering more political Parties before the 2019 general elections.
According to the Saturday issue of the Commission’s daily bulletin, Yakubu said that the Commission had received over 120 requests from political associations to be registered as political Parties.
The INEC boss was quoted as saying:
“Already, there are 46 registered political parties and recently a court of law ordered the commission to register one more association as political party.
Obviously, by the time the commission processes outstanding applications, the number of political parties will possibly increase.”
