Months after the disappearance of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB front runner has been spotted in Ghana. The Cable reports that Kanu and his wife, Uchechi are said to be living at an estate, Cantonment, also in Accra, called “Arabella”.
Security sources say the IPOB leader was ferried to the Niger Delta creeks by militants at the height of Python Dance II, from where he found his way to Ghana by sea. Sources also say Kanu regularly patronizes suya joints in remote parts of the city.
The IPOB had accused the Nigerian Army of killing Nnamdi Kanu during the raid of his father’s house during the Exercise Python Dance 2 in Abia state.
On September 14, 2017, soldiers stormed Kanu’s Afaraukwu Umuahia residence in Abia State; as clashes between the army and IPOB members boiled over.
Kanu who was caught on tape asking his supporters to leave the compound on the day, hasn’t been seen since then. The group spokesman, Emma Powerful, claimed that they were searching for Kanu whose whereabouts remained unknown after the raid.
Former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu had alleged that Nnamdi Kanu fled to London via Malaysia.
“Kanu was not taken away by the military. Kanu went to Malaysia from where he travelled to the United Kingdom. Nnamdi Kanu is in London right now as we speak”, Kalu told Punch newspaper in an interview in January 2017.
He added that “Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested by anybody. He left the country on his own. One of his relations has spoken to me and explained everything because I wanted to see him and talk to him wherever he was and see how I could meet some Federal Government officials on his issue,” the former governor said.
Meanwhile it has not been all rosy for Senator Enyinnaya Ababribe, the Abia state lawmaker who stood surety for Nnamdi Kanu before his release from custody.
The court had asked Senator Abaribe to produce Kanu or face the full wrath of the law.The lawmaker however, said he does not know the whereabout of the IPOB leader.
This latest news about Nnamdi Kanu may have quelled insinuations that he was killed during the military exercise at his father’s house.
