The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has intensified its efforts towards sustaining peace in the Niger Delta region, with the latest training organised for 90 graduates on agriculture value chains development.
From the official statement from the Ministry, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, who was represented at the graduation ceremony in Calabar by Mr. Philip Ndiomu disclosed that the trained graduates were also empowered with N500,000 each as a start-up package for the various skills acquired during the training.
He stated that the training and empowerment programme for the youths and women in the Niger Delta region was designed to reduce unemployment and youth restiveness, saying that government would remain committed to the welfare of the people of the region.
The 90 youths and women drawn from different parts of the region, were trained in Fishery and Poultry production so that they would contribute to the food security of the region and Nigeria in general.
The statement reads: “It would be recalled that the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Claudius Omoleye Daramola had during the graduation of 180 Bakassi returnees in Calabar fourth night ago promised that the training and empowerment programme was a continuous exercise, adding that “Those who have been agitating for inclusion should be reassured that they have been heard and therefore will be considered in subsequent batches to be self-employed and self-dependent.
