Governor Ganduje resolves Kano assembly crisis

Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Kano State Governor, has reconciled the two warring factions of the state House of Assembly.

Recall that a former Speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, and 21 other assembly members moved an impeachment process against the incumbent Speaker, Yusuf Abdullahi Atta.

The reconciliation came after an all-night meeting between the warring factions as the Kabiru Alhassan Rirum lawmakers insisted that Atta must go but were persuaded to shun their stance and accept peace.

The State Commissioner for Information Muhammad Garba who was at the meeting confirmed to our reporter that following the reconciliation which brought the crisis to an end, the Assembly will reopen on Thursday to further consolidate the resolutions reached at the meeting.

Garba said the reconciliation meeting was held late yesterday at the Government House between representatives of the two feuding factions and Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who intervened to resolve the crisis in the interest of peace and democratic development of the state.

“The meeting was held in a matured and responsible manner”, he added.

All efforts to speak to both warring factions of the former Speaker Rirum and the incumbent Speaker Yusuf Atta probed abortive as their telephone lines were switched off.
