Hoodlums yesterday beat one of those who allegedly striped the Majority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, and shared his video on social media, on the premises of Osogbo High Court. Trouble started when the accused entered the court and the thugs believed to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) asked him to surrender his mobile phone and other communication gadgets belonging to him to them. His refusal to hand over the gadgets infuriated the hoodlums who descended on him and beat him mercilessly.
In his desperate move to escape the wrath of the mob, the accused ran into one of the Judicial Service Commission’s offices on the court premises but was chased out by his pursuers who beat him with horsewhips. In the process, they damaged some computer sets being used by workers in the office.
Sensing danger, court officials fled to avoid being beaten. The case of the suspects arrested for allegedly setting up Owoeye came up before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara. A commissioner reportedly questioned why prison officials prevented people from taking the picture and video of the accused.
The six accused were arraigned and remanded in prison while the case was adjourned for mention. Owoeye’s naked video went viral on the internet at the weekend. In the video, the lawmaker was allegedly caught by some members of a community while bathing naked in the midnight for alleged ritual purposes.
