The senate yesterday passed a bill seeking to establish a Federal University of Science And Technology in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The passage of the FCT University of Science and Technology Bill 2018 came 17 months after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the establishment of the university on May 15, 2017.

Presenting the report, Barau said the FCT had the financial capacity and the required facilities to run such a university, adding that the institution, when established, would not only help in providing admission opportunities for knowledge seekers at that level, but would also provide employment opportunities for qualified Nigerians in and outside the FCT.

He added that the establishment of the university would go a long way in promoting science and technology education highly needed at this digital age for required scientific discoveries and technological advancement. Addressing journalists on the passage of the bill, Aduda said collaborative efforts were being made to get similar passage in the House of Representatives so that the legislation could be transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.
