Governors met in Abuja yesterday and said they would soon meet President Muhammadu Buhari for a final resolution on the new national minimum wage.
They had earlier in October agreed on N22,500 as the new minimum wage they said they could afford to pay workers; the offer that has been rejected by the organised labour.
The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, had in its report submitted to President Buhari last month, recommended N30, 000.
Rising from its meeting yesterday, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum expressed hope that the issue would be resolved before the end of the year.
Its spokesman, Abdulrazaque Bello Barkindo, disclosed this to newsmen yesterday after the meeting.
Barkindo said the governors would also meet the president today to thank him for how he had handled the economy.
He said the governors welcomed the governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, who attended the meeting for a first time.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Resident Doctors in Nigeria (NARD) has blamed the country’s political elite for medical tourism.
The president of the association, Dr Olusegun Olaopa, stated this while interacting with the Director-General of the NGF, Mr. Asishana B. Okauru when he paid him a courtesy call at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.
“Our political elite must make a bold statement by seeking medical attention in the country because we are never short of the required expertise in Nigeria; what our hospitals lack are equipment and only by having our very important people in our hospitals would the standards of these hospitals rise to the same level as those abroad,” he Olaopa said.
