There is a huge presence of soldiers in the ancient city of Sokoto, Sokoto State as residents troop out in large numbers to the various polling centres.
The soldiers manned the major roads and roundabout in the city, passing only those on election duty and with their permanent voter cards.
It was observed that there was no police checkpoint out of the over 15 so far passed by a correspondent.
It was also observed that there were vehicular movements as those who displayed their PVCs were allowed to pass at the checkpoints.
It was further observed that electoral officers were just arriving at the units visited by a Punch correspondent after 8:00 a.m.
