The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, on Tuesday, described wives of security officers as heroes in the security of lives and property of the country.
The governor’s wife made the remarks when members of Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) led by the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Mrs Asmau Ibrahim, paid her a courtesy visit in Ibadan.
According to her, wives of policemen who consistently manage homes while their husbands are busy keeping the country safe are the reasons the men can serve with focus.
She assured the association of her readiness to support members as always done in the past.
The governor’s wife said she had reached out to many schools in rural areas through her “Educate a Rural Child Initiative’’ as part of her empowerment programme.
She added that “through this empowerment programme, my office was
able to provide school uniforms, school bags, sandals to pupils and brick classrooms, laboratories and libraries to hinterland schools.’’
Ajimobi lauded the efforts of the wife of the I-G, saying she was the first wife of police boss in the country to visit Oyo State.
Earlier, the I-G’s wife had told the governor’s wife that the association’s core focus was to give back to the society through skill acquisition and empowerment programmes for wives of fallen heroes to provide a means of livelihood for them.
She said the association had on a few occasions organised campaigns against child abuse, drug abuse and other vices.
She solicited the support of Mrs Ajimobi in engaging the association’s members in programmes that would empower them and keep them busy.
