Petroleum explorationists’ body gets new president

The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists has announced the election of Mr. Andrew Ejayeriese as its new president following the end of the tenure of Mr. Abiodun Adesanya.

NAPE said in a statement that Ejayeriese was sworn in as the 40th president at the 35th Annual International Conference of the association.

It described him as a strong advocate of university-industry collaboration and the improvement of the quality of geosciences education in the Nigerian university system, having served the association in various capacities before his new assignment.

The association said as president-elect and chairman of the planning committee of the 35th conference, he put together perhaps the most creative and innovative gathering that the association had ever held.

According to the statement, Ejayeriese is currently the general manager, Nigeria Exploration at Mobil Producing Nigeria and Esso Companies responsible for stewarding and providing oversight for all exploration activities in Nigeria.

He was said to have also worked on various geoscience assignments such as team lead, JV-LNG; strategic planning advisor; manager, operations technical geosciences; and general manager, operations technical geoscience production.

The statement quoted Ejayeriese as saying in his inaugural address that he would build on the successes and great work done by previous presidents, grow the association by increasing membership through creating an inclusive environment for all industry stakeholders and advance the formation of more effective linkages between the state chapters of NAPE and universities within their domains.

He also promised to work to ensure the enhancement of technical learning, training and impacting the wider society through their collective activities, using already established avenues.

He stated that he would use his over 27 years’ industry experience to strengthen the NAPE’s University Assistance Programme, which had been acclaimed as the bridge for stronger geoscience education and pipeline for continuous growth in membership in the long term.

Ejayeriese obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics in 1987 from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1999.

According to the statement, he is a Fellow of NAPE and the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, and won several awards, including FUTO’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2002; NAPE award for Best Paper Oral Presentation in 2002; patron award for excellence from the Geophysical Association of the Federal University of Technology, Akure; and was the Barbara McBride Leadership Award Finalist in 2008 and 2015, an ExxonMobil Geoscience Global Leadership Award.
