Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has been hospitalised, after suffering from shock, following the health condition of her son, Yusuf, who was involved in a bike accident on Tuesday.
The development, however, emerged on a day Hanan Buhari, who is daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed that her brother, Yusuf is “doing well”.
Yusuf was reportedly racing with a friend when in an attempt to overtake a vehicle, skidded off the road, sustaining injuries that made him unconscious.
Saturday Telegraph investigations revealed that the news of Yusuf’s accident was broken to the President’s wife, at the time she was in Adamawa, her home state.
A competent presidency source confirmed that Aisha, who rushed to Abuja to see the condition of her son at a private hospital Cedacrest, where he is being managed by a team of specialist doctors, was denied access by security operatives.
Following the denial of access, the source said, Aisha became traumatised having interpreted the ac-tion of the security operatives as a deliberate move to block her from knowing how bad Yusuf’s health may have deteriorated.
According to the source, Aisha had been placed on bed rest at the same private hospital in Abuja where her son is being treated.
Yusuf was involved the accident on Tuesday night in Gwarinpa area of the nation’s capital. According to the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, Yusuf sustained head injury and had one of his limbs broken from the accident. Yusuf is from President Buhari’s current wife, Aisha.
The statement announcing the accident reads, “Yusuf Buhari had a bike accident last night around Gwarimpa in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“He broke a limb and had an injury to the head as a result. He has undergone surgery at a clinic in Abuja. He is in a stable condition.
“The President and his wife, Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, are thankful to Nigerians for the good wishes and prayers for their son.
“May God reward you all,” the statement added. Staff of the presidential villa and aides of the President on Thursday offered special Muslim prayers for the quick recovery of Yusuf.
President Buhari was also yesterday joined by prominent Nigerians at the Aso Rock Mosque on Friday where special prayers were offered for the accident victim. Yusuf last year bagged a Master’s degree from a University in the United Kingdom.
The President’s son along with his sister Zahra Buhari, graduated from the University of Surrey, Guildford, England in a well publicised celebration. Meanwhile, Yusuf, the only son of President Buhari, is being treated at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, following injuries on his head and broken limb in the accident which occurred at Gwarinmpa in Abuja on Tuesday night.
Hanan shared the update on his progress through a post on Instagram bringing to an end to speculations about his status, according to an online news portal, THEWILL. “Yusuf is doing well. Alamdulilahi. Thank you for all the messages,” she reportedly wrote in her Instagram page.
