Airport Road: Bring title documents, Lagos tells landlords

Lagos State government has asked owners of property demolished in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area to pave way for the expansion and upgrade of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road to promptly submit their planning documents.

Some of documents requested are: certified registered title document of properties within the said right of way, approved building plan permit for the affected structures and any other relevant documents as proof of ownership.

The documents are to be presented to the office of the honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at Block 15, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, to ensure the ease of processing payments.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Rotimi Ogunleye, who disclosed this, said the proposed road project, designed 10- lane and BRT lane with a total of 5.706km with high volume of vehicular movement, served as a gateway to a number of residential and commercial areas.

According to him, the project starts from Oshodi to the international airport with interchange and flyover that ends towards the local airport.

The commissioner appealed to Lagosians to bear with government during the period of reconstruction, promising that at completion, a world class standard road network would be delivered.

He said the road which, according to him, is an entry point into the country, would project a reputable image for Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole and attract foreign investors and tourists which would in turn enhance the economic activities in the corridor.

To address the inconveniences the project may pose to motorists and commuters during the period of construction, the commissioner said the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) had created alternative routes and diversions which would be manned by its officials throughout the period of construction.

He said: “This is basically to ensure seamless traffic and assist motorists and commuters get to their destinations on time.

“The administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, since inception, has focused on massive infrastructural upgrade across the state. The proposed road project, which is one of the many developments, is designed 10-lane and BRT lane with a total of 5.706km with high volume of vehicular movement and serves as a gateway to a number of residential and commercial activities in the state.

The project starts from Oshodi to the international airport interchange and flyover that would end towards the local airport.” Ogunele said government was sincere about payment of compensation to all affected by the exercises carried out across the state.
