Super Eagles target historic win against Morocco

Super Eagles of Nigeria are on the verge of creating history as they face Morocco in the final of the African Nations Championship today at the Mohammed V, Casablanca, Morocco.

This is the first time the Nigerian team will be playing in the final of the competition since its inception in 2009 with their only success being a third place finish in 2014 under coach Stephen Keshi.

The Home Eagles lost in the semi-final against Ghana before defeating Zimbabwe 1-0 in the third place match. Despite not rated highly to even get to the finals, the Eagles have weathered the storm to get to the grand finale and will hope to move a step higher by winning the title at the expense of the host.

The Eagles have been hit with various degrees of injury with the team captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, defender, Daniel Itodo, and striker, Sunday Faleye, already ruled out of the final game. Plateau United goalkeeper, Dele AJiboye, who replaced injured Ezenwa in goal said the trophy would be the biggest title of his career.

“CHAN will be my biggest title, even though I have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup,” he said. “The tournament is an elite tournament in Africa and this is the first time Nigeria would make it to the final of the championship.
