New Crisis Looms In Cross River APC As New Chairman Emerges Despite Restraining Order

A new chapter of crisis may have opened in Cross River State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the congress conducted on Saturday saw Etim John emerging as the substantive.

Etim John had a convincing win of 56 vote against his opponent, Dr. Mathew Achibe who scored 36.

The state congress, which was just for the purpose of electing a substantive state chairman, was directed by the national leadership through a special committee led by the Deputy National Chairman South, Chief Segun Oni.

Before the congress on Saturday, a court injunction secured the previous day was purportedly served on the representative of the national leadership that came down for the election.

A faction of the party in the state through one King Edom Vincent Odey had file a case with suit number FHC/ABJ/C5/193/2018 seeking an order of injunction “restraining the 1st defendant (APC) whether by itself, National Chairman or any other officer authorized by him from conducting the special congress for the election of a state chairman for the Cross River State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress slated for 24 February, 2018.

“An order of mandatory injunction restraining the 2nd defendant (Independent National Electoral Commissionfrom) howsoever from observing or recognizing the directive of the 1st defendant for the conduct of a special state congress to elect the State Chairman of its chapter in Cross River State slated for Saturday 24 February 2018.”

However the National Officers led by Mohammed Idebawa Saturday went ahead to conduct the election at the party secretariat along Barracks road.
