SUBEB to empower 2,000 teachers on ICT

Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) yesterday said it had concluded arrangements to train no fewer than 2,000 public school teachers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)- based teaching methodology under the Edo State Basic Education Sector Transformation (Edo BEST) programme.

Acting Chairman of SUBEB and Special Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, who disclosed this yesterday, said the programme was holistic in nature and would cater for the needs of stakeholders, including pupils, teachers, headmasters/ mistresses, parents, communities and school infrastructure.

She said the Edo BEST, which is a strategic vision of the Governor Godwin Obaseki towards revamping SUBEB and the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), as well as transform basic education in the state, would take place in 300 schools in its pilot phase.

Osa, however, noted that teachers, who do not participate imn the first phase of the training would not be allowed to teach in the 300 pilot schools because only those with the right skill set, competence and tools will be able to deliver on the learning outcomes expected from the schools. She went on: “It is important that our teachers know that for the 300 pilot schools, any teacher who did not participate in the training cannot remain in class.
