February election, Nigeria’s opportunity to end dictatorship — Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has described next month’s presidential election as the best opportunity for Nigerians to end dictatorship in the country.

Wike also said the forthcoming election offered Nigerians a chance to be free.

The governor spoke on Sunday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, during a special mass held at the Catholic Institute of West Africa.

He said the failures of the current administration had made the 2019 general elections very important.

Wike said the bad state of the nation’s economy under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration had destroyed all spheres of life, including the church.

He said, “In the forthcoming presidential election, you have the opportunity to end dictatorship and embrace freedom.

“Today, nobody is enjoying the economy. The economy has degenerated to the level that the church is affected as people can no longer give offering and tithes.

“We have the opportunity to fix our economy by voting for the right person. This is a time to change the economic direction of the country.”

The governor said the collapse of national security architecture was due to the inability of the All Progressives Congress is to initiate quality policies.

He urged Nigerians to vote Atiku Abubakar who he said has the blueprint to secure the country.

He also urged the church to pray for peaceful polls, adding that nobody should shed blood for political relevance.

“What is important is that the church must pray for peaceful and credible polls. No position is worth the blood of anyone. We preach peaceful and credible polls,” he said.

The Catholic Bishop of Port Harcourt Diocese, Rt. Rev. Camillus Etukudo, urged Nigerians to participate in the elections and vote according to their conscience.
