Killing: Benue Govt restrict movement of people on Agatu major roads

Benue State Government has imposed restriction of movement on Obagaji-Akwu Okokolo-Abugbe road and other areas in the troubled Agatu Local Government Area.

 

The restriction followed the attack on Okokolo by suspected youths from Abugbe on Sunday where over 12 people were killed

 

In the statement issued by Ede Ogaba Ede, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of the state, Engr. Benson Abounu. The state security council at a meeting held during the visit of council members to the troubled area on Monday resolved to restrict movement in the affected areas.

 

Parts of the statement read, “The council expressed disappointment with the failure of Agatu people to resolve their internal disagreement peacefully and warned that the government would no longer tolerate such brazen act of criminality.

 

“The council directed the people of Akwu to produce a patent medicine dealer from Ologba who lives in their area and has not been seen since Sunday.

 

“They are also to produce the body of an Okokolo youth leader said to have been killed at Akwu”.

 

The State Deputy Governor, Abounu on Monday led members of state security council accompanied by some leaders in Agatu to Akwu and Okokolo on-the-spot assessment.

 

Among those who accompanied the Deputy Governor were the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, John Ngbede, former members of House of Representatives and State Assembly.

 

Speaking to people in Akwu and Okokolo, Abounu appealed to them and the entire people of Agatu LG to help security men in the area to fish out the perpetrators of Sunday attack.
