Popular Country music star, Don Williams has died. He was reported to have died on Friday, 8^th September, 2017 after “a brief illness”.

Don Williams (1939 – 2017)

Williams was born on 27^th May, 1939 in Floydada, Texas, and was raised in Portland, Texas, where he learned to play the guitar from his mother.

The star began his solo career in 1971 and achieved much success, amassing 17 number one Country hits. He was known as the “gentle giant” of Country music. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010.

Some of Williams’ hits included ‘Some broken hearts never mend’, ‘You’re my best friend’, ‘I believe in you’, ‘Till the rivers all run dry’ and ‘Lord, I hope this day is good’.

In a statement on Friday, the CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, said “Don Williams offered calm, beauty, and a sense of wistful peace that is in short supply these days. His music will forever be a balm in troublesome times.”

Troy Gentry (1967 – 2017)

The news of the death of 50-year-old Troy Gentry has also shaken the Country music world, shocking Country music fans and artistes.

Gentry died in a helicopter crash on Friday, 8^th September, 2017, hours before he was to perform at a concert. Report has it that crews were able to remove Gentry from the wreckage but he died on the way to a hospital. The pilot died in the wreckage.

Gentry was born on 5^th April, 1967, in Lexington, Kentucky, where he met bandmate Eddie Montgomery and formed the group ‘Montgomery Gentry’ off of their last names.

Some of Montgomery Gentry’s hits include ‘Roll with me’, ‘Lucky man’, ‘Something to be proud of’ and ‘If you ever stop loving me’.

The band combined Country music and Southern Rock. It was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2009. The group released its debut album, ‘Tattoos & Scars’ in 1999.
