It’s unlawful for anyone or group to take revenge – Buhari

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has said that it is unlawful for any person or group of people to take law into their hands in the name of revenge or reprisal.

He said that they should rather allow the law enforcement agencies to do their jobs and make offenders face lawful justice.

Buhari said this on Saturday in reaction to the killing of people in a night attack on Ancha village in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday, the President expressed his disappointment at the fact that the peace and normalcy that was beginning to settle in the State was disrupted.

“It is unlawful of anyone or group to take the laws into their hands in the name of revenge or reprisals, rather than follow due process by allowing law enforcement agencies to fish out any such aggressors, who will be made to face justice.

I urge all communities in the State and the other parts of the country to embrace peace and bring to a stop, these painful and unnecessary killings”, he said.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, Peter Ogunyanwo, said that findings so far revealed that the attack on Ancha village, which killed 19 persons and injured five others, was carried out by herdsmen to avenge the killing of a young boy.
