President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to State Governors to pay the salaries of workers in their States. The President made this appeal when he met with traditional rulers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
Buhari expressed his disappointment at the fact that many workers and pensioners in various States were still being owed months of salaries.
He said, “There are Nigerians that haven’t been paid for six months. There are Nigerians that haven’t been paid their retirement benefits for years.
I appeal to the Governors; that is why we voted money, we borrowed money.”
In the course of the occasion, the President also preached unity and love among Nigerians.
He urged the leaders present to pacify their people, and encourage them to think of themselves and their neighbours.
That said, the President also joked that he was happy with the level of rainfall this year, and would have run away from the country if it were not good.
Among the traditional rulers present were the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad III, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi.
Also present was the Vice President of the Federation, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
