The Programme Manager of Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme, Mr Onyema Nwodo, has revealed that the Government is tackling the cocoyam disease which withers cocoyam plants, in the State.
Nwodo said in Enugu on Saturday, that the disease manifested two years ago and made farmers in the area lose a lot of their crops.
He said that ADP had sent samples from the farmers to the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike, Abia State, as this Institute coordinates research in root crops.
Nwodo also urged the Chairmen of Local Government Areas in the State and the Department of Agriculture to ensure that the disease was controlled.
