Following the indefinite strike action embarked upon by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), healthcare services have been paralysed at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.

Members who resumed to work were seen being sent back by Officials of the Union ‘in their interest’.

This was confirmed on Thursday by the JOHESU Chairman, Mr Achimugu Isaiah who said that they decided to join in the Strike action in the interest of the Health sector.

“The reasons why we have embarked on the Strike is nothing but because the Government has failed to address our demands which included review of retirement age from 60 to 65 years, demand for autonomy of the Teaching and Specialist Hospitals. Inadequate funding is also a reason why we embarked on the Strike,” Isaiah said.

The JOHESU Chairman called on the Federal Government to meet the demands in order to resolve the dispute.

In reaction, the Medical Director of the Centre, Dr Joshua Giyan, appealed to the aggrieved workers to return to work in order to prevent loss of lives.
