Laloko says Ezenwa is not to blame for Super Eagles’ defeat

Former Technical Director of the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Chief Kashimawo Laloko, has said that Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, was not to blame for the 4-1 loss to the Black Stars of Ghana in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) final match earlier this week.

Laloko said that the team lost due to inexperience, and he urged them to learn from the experience gained from the tournament.

Laloko, who is the Director of the Pepsi Football Academy, said that the team was carried away by the euphoria of their 2-0 win against the Black Stars in the group stage of the game.

“What happened was due to inexperience on the side of the Eagles’ Coach, in the sense that, when Nigeria beat Ghana 2-0, Ghana wanted to test the ground and the strength of the Eagles. They wanted to know what Nigeria looked like,” he said.

He further said that he was sure Ezenwa would not be too demoralised to put up an optimum performance against Zambia in the 2018 World Cup Qualifier in Uyo next month.

“Ezenwa is a good goalkeeper. The 4-1 loss cannot stop him from doing well in our match against Zambia,” Laloko said.
