Why we are not bringing Diezani back to Nigeria to face trial – AGF

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has disclosed that Nigeria would not bring former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, back to face corruption charges.

It was reported earlier that Diezani urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to compel the AGF to bring her back to Nigeria from the UK to defend herself of the corruption charges against her, but The Punch reported that Malami, who is also the Minister of Justice, said that there was no need to.

Malami said that it was better for the former Minister to face investigation in the UK since the UK had already opened investigations relating to corruption against her there as well.

“Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke is facing charges of money laundering and acquisition of properties in United Kingdom. So, it is important to face the charges there than for her to come as a mere witness in a case in Nigeria,” the Minister said.
