Futurama to stream exclusively on Hulu

Good news for lovers OF Futurama, Hulu has confirmed that all 140 episodes of the Matt Groening’s sci-fi comedy cartoon series, including the four films produced between 1999 and 2013, will be available to stream starting from 16th October, as first reported by Variety.

Futurama, which used to stream on Netflix, was removed entirely on 1st July of this year. Before then, Netflix already began removing seasons of Futurama, but the network didn’t confirm that Futurama was leaving until June.

It’s not too surprising that Futurama has ended up on Hulu. In July, Hulu announced that it had partnered with 20th Century Fox to be the exclusive streaming home of Fox’s TV catalogue.

In August 2016, Hulu confirmed that Time Warner had become a major Stakeholder in the company. Hulu added that 20th Century Fox owned a 30 percent stake in the streaming service, making it no surprise that Fox would want to stream its series exclusively on Hulu. Other shows, like Bob’s Burgers, are already available to stream exclusively on Hulu.

In the past few months, Hulu has increased the number of licensed series it carries, adding new partnerships with NBCUniverseal in the process. It’s quickly making itself the go-to destination for streaming, adding original series like The Handmaid’s Tale, Marvel’s Runaways and Chance.

Executives of Netflix, one of Hulu’s major competitors, have said in the past, that they’re willing to lose exclusive licensing and promote more original series. Netflix is set to invest $7 billion in original series and films in 2018.
