Several students in Enugu State have gotten new smiles on their faces, thanks to scholarships from the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Ekweremadu expended money to the tune of N38.5 million on 18 University undergraduates in the State. Furthermore, three hundred students got N40,000 each as bursaries with nine others receiving items such as motor bikes and sewing machines.
The Deputy Senate President is also bankrolling the sponsorship of 12,000 adult learners in an adult education programme.
The Senator disclosed that he was able to achieve his present status because of his educational background. He said this while presenting cheques and other items to the beneficiaries at Ikeoha Foundation (his non-profit Organisation) Adult Literacy Day in Udi.
Ekweremadu said, “For some people, their parents had to sell lands for them to go to School but now, there is help. One day, I will be tired of Ikeoha Foundation and I hope one of these people will take up the Foundation.”
“I couldn’t have achieved what I am today without education. It liberated me to speak anywhere and with anybody in any part of the world without feeling intimidated,” the Senator added.
