Local Government workers in Adamawa State have been directed by its leadership under the aegies of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Adamawa Chapter to proceed on an indefinate strike.
In a press statement as communicated to journalists by the State President Comrade Haman Jumba Gutagel, the local government workers were directed to shut the Local Government Secretariat and all governnent activities following the inability of the Adamawa State government to meet its demands in two altimatums served by the leadership of the Union on the State Government.
Among the demands as listed by Local government workers include
Five months salary areas in April 2016,July 2017,August 2017,September 2017 and October 2017.
2.Outstabding salary arears of four local Government from the bailout funds released from the federal Government. The local Governments are Demsa,Hong,Shelleng and Mubi South.
The Union Leaders are also demanding for the payments of leave grants owed to workers for the year 2014,2015,2016 and 2017.
NULGE in Adamawa State informed that after series of meetings between the union and government officials, all efforts to reach consensus have proved abortive.
In view of the above, the Nigerian Union of Local Government employees in Adamawa State have urged all its teaming members across the 21 local government areas of the state to embark on an indefinate strike from 12 midnight of the 23rd October 2017.
The union also advised its members to conduct themselves peacefully and to abide by the laws if the land and to await further directives from the leadership of the union.
AIT has confirmed that the local Governnent workers have since complied with this directive and commenced strike across the state.
