Ezeife backs Obiano’s second term bid

Former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has expressed support for the second term bid of candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and incumbent governor, Willie Obiano.

At a media conference in Awka yesterday, Ezeife urged citizens to cast their votes for the aspirant in the November 18 election in the state.

He praised the candidate’s achievements particularly on security, saying the current safe environment had opened up the state to local and foreign investors.

He noted that before Obiano’s intervention, people feared visiting Anambra, opting to hold social events in Lagos, Abuja and other cities, as cases of kidnapping became rampant.

“Anambra is one of the safest states in Nigeria today. People move without fear, in and out of Anambra. Onitsha roads are now safe.

The truth is that the elders of Anambra had committed to governor Obiano that if he succeeded with solving the security problem, they would support his second term bid. Indeed, it is now a debt we owe.

And we should do it with happiness and celebration,” Ezeife said.

The former governor urged Nigerians to rebuild a new country, regretting that the nation bequeathed by our forefathers had failed.

He said: “I am sure that no knowledgeable person has any doubt that Nigeria, as we know her, has failed. A new Nigeria, restructured with equity, egalitarianism, justice and fairness must emerge from the present rut.”

He wondered what anybody stood to gain if there was no election, warning: “When it is time for the incumbent governor to leave office and there is no election, the Federal Government will declare a state of emergency.

That government which unleashed Operation Python Dance on us, which humiliated us; that government will choose who will govern the state. I don’t understand why an Igbo man, an Anambra man can take such a stand.”
