The family of Hezekiah Emeh of Umuatako village, in the Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State, have petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, over the continued detention of two brothers, Nwankire and Ogazie Eme.
The police were reported to have also arrested another relative, Helen Eme, and her three months old baby.
Ogazie’s wife, Jane, said the two brothers and Helen were arrested by a team of policemen at their residence on Umuatako Road, Aba, on October 23, adding that they had been transferred to the Force headquarters in Abuja, without committing any offence.
In a petition by a non-governmental organisation, Crisis Control Foundation, Aba, Jane said the continued detention of the victims was a gross violation of their fundamental human rights.
She lamented that her husband was diabetic and he had not had access to his medication since he was arrested and taken to Abuja, saying she feared his health condition could deteriorate.
The head of the foundation, Mrs. Nkechinyere Nwaogu, urged the IG to release the victims without further delay or charge them to court if they committed any offence.
