No fewer than 22 people were killed in a mosque in Mubi town, Adamawa State Tuesday when a suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) strapped on him during an early morning prayer.
According to an eyewitness account, the bomber sneaked into the mosque called Massalacin Madina at Anguwan Shuwa when the Muslim faithful were observing their prayer and blew himself up resulting in the death of over 22 people, while many others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
‘’As I am talking to you, I saw over 22 dead with many injured including the suicide bomber,’’ said a resident who simply identified himself as Bello.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Mubi North Local Government Area in the state, Musa Ahmad Bello, said: “The suicide bomber struck at the mosque during the morning prayer. Though for now we are still compiling the casualty figure, reports say that over 15 to 20 people were reported killed.
“Already, the injured have been rushed to hospitals.”
