My Experience at TE12 – Emmanuel Akinsola

Yeah, it’s no news that the 12th edition of The Experience(tagged ‘Jesus Our King’), the biggest gospel concert in the world was a massive success. Thanks to God and our amiable host, Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House On The Rock.

This was my fourth time in attendance(I wish to meet anyone who has attended all twelve).

The impressive array of gospel artistes, pastors, comedians and creme-de-la-creme of the society that graced the The Experience 12(TE12) are probably too much to mention but I’ll try my best reeling them out.

Artistes included; Eben, Beejay Sax, Sonnie Badu, Chevelle Franklyn, Micah Stampley, Tim Godfrey, Frank Edwards, Travis Greene,Don Moen(“grandfather of The Experience”), Nathaniel Bassey, Chioma Jesus, Donnie McClurkin, Manuel Druminiski(a German concert violinist), Dupe Ige Kachi(Project Fame’s voice coach and powerful coloratura soprano) and Tope Alabi.

My highlights? Tim Godfrey’s electric and highly groovy performance left me feeling awed and helpless at the same time. You needed to hear his backups’ vocal harmonies and rich combination of chord progressions and scales that could make the average music enthusiast feel a surreal kind of ecstasy as he sways uncontrollably to Tim’s self-dictated rhythms. Dupe’s classical rendition of Our Lord’s Prayer was lit and her last freaking note(as in,musical note) undisputedly put her in the class of coloratura sopranos only found amidst opera singers.

Beejay Sax, Tim Godfrey, Eben, Nathaniel Bassey, Dupe Ige and Manuel Druminiski were my best performers of the night.

Other dignitaries and pastors who savored this awesome experience right at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos included His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, Bishop Mike Okonkwo(T.R.E.M), Pastor Victor Adeyemi(Global Harvesters), Pastor Bolaji Idowu(H.I.C.C), Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo(K.I.C.C) and an inexhaustible array of others.

I just felt it in my guts, that Kenny Blaq had to grace TE12 considering his recent exploits in the world of music comedy and lo and behold, he did. You needed to see the way I jumped up and screamed all the way when he was announced. And trust me, he didn’t disappoint.

Other comedians included; MC Abbey, Akpororo(who has been a huge regular at The Experience), Still Ringing, Erujeje etc.

The organizers deserve an amazing applause for ensuring a hitch-free event. The crowd control skills of the security and ushers was commendable even as the car parks seemed more than sufficient.

Thank God for a successful event. If you missed the event, you can still watch the full event on Dstv(Channel 198) as it will consistently run for the next few days or go on the Vibes Page on the Hyve.ng Mobile App.
