Selena Gomez makes her Instagram account private after ‘hurtful’ Billboard article

Well, that’s one way to celebrate being the most-followed person on Instagram. One week after it was revealed Selena Gomez holds the crown yet again for 2017 with 130 million followers, the “Wolves” singer suddenly made her account private on Tuesday.

It’s unclear what upset Gomez, 25, but she may have given a clue on a since-deleted Instagram story.

The singer was recently named Billboard‘s Woman of the Year and she shared a screenshot of the interview she participated in, writing over the text, “Never will I let another human guess my words ever again. Or invite them in my home. That is so hurtful. The most ‘ridiculous’ part of that is no one knowing my heart when I say things.”

While Gomez didn’t elaborate on what in the profile was hurtful, the part in the screenshot mentions a five-foot teddy bear on her kitchen floor. The anecdote read:

“I know, I know,” says Gomez, rolling her eyes, acknowledging that the stuffed animal doesn’t quite blend with the trio of armchairs nestled in the inviting, marble-accented nook. “It was a gift, and at first I thought, ‘This is so ridiculous, I can’t wait until I give it away to another person.’”

The writer went on to note that while Gomez held onto the bear, she rid herself of other things (and people) while publicly confronting the ongoing anxiety and depression that were intertwined with lupus.

Neither the singer nor Billboard has commented; however, Gomez seemed pleased with how everything turned out days ago after the story was published on Nov. 30. “Thank you beyond for your acknowledgment and honor @billboard,” she shared on Instagram alongside her Billboard cover.

“I’ll try to continue to give my best to even remotely live up to a title. In the mean time I hope we all continue to give our best when the world wants to give us the worst. We aren’t stopping the fight.”

Gomez was the most-followed person on Instagram for the second year in a row and holds five of the 10 most-liked photos of 2017. She has spoken out about the pressure of social media before, telling Vogue earlier this year she doesn’t even know her password to her account as it’s in the hands of her assistant.

“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out,” Gomez explained. “It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to.

I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like s**t when I look at Instagram.”
