Tech billionaire Michael Dell, who grew up in Houston before founding Dell Technologies, has pledged $36 million — the largest donation so far — to assist Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

“The scale of human tragedy is unprecedented,” Dell, who spent the first 14 years of his life in Houston, told USA TODAY in a phone interview Thursday, a day before the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation announced its gift.
His donation comes even as many Hollywood celebrities have taken it upon themselves to render assistance one way or the other. Hollywood celebrities who have donated to assist those affected by this disaster include; Kevin Hart who donated $50,000 and kicked off a campaign that encouraged his friends like Kim Kardashian, Steve Harvey, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Justin Timberlake to do the same for what he called the Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge.
Kardashian and her family announced Tuesday they would be donating $500,000 to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Sandra Bullock, Tyler Perry, and Leonardo DiCaprio’s nonprofit foundation all gave $1 million to relief efforts. Miley Cyrus also donated $500,000.Taylor Swift made a sizeable donation to Houston Food Bank in honor of her mother who graduated from the University of Houston.
DJ Khaled pledged $25,000. Dwayne Johnson also announced a $25,000 donation in a social media post where he recalled his experience with Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
NFL star, J.J Watt who started an online fundraiser on Sunday, August 27 with $200,000 and realized $15.4m by Friday, September 1 had contributors such as comedian Ellen DeGeneres giving $1 million to the fund-raiser and rapper Drake donating $200,000.
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez announced they would donate a collective $50,000 even as the storm has left 47 dead and 156,000 homes damaged.
